A poem by a 3rd grader I like to call the Evil Spawn.
If I were in charge of the world
I’d cancel unkindness,
violence, Reading, and also
English homework.
If I were in charge of the world
there’d be happiness,
Math, and
If I were in charge of the world
you wouldn’t have bad books,
You wouldn’t have 1-4 point A.R. books.
You wouldn’t have empty lots.
Or “talking in line.”
You wouldn’t even have broken buildings.
If I were in charge of the world.
A chocolate covered donut
would be a vegetable.
All dogs would be Beagles.
And a person who forgot to brush her hair,
and sometimes forgot to put on her flip flops,
would still be allowed to be
in charge of the world.
Hopefully, she gets a good grade since she is now a published author on a moderately read blog.

My favorite line is the one about how you wouldn’t have “talking in line.” I’m dying laughing. I do this with my seventh graders, so it is interesting to see the quotes change by grade level. Love it!!! Thanks for sharing. I give it a 100. (except “evil spawn” isn’t on my roll, so good luck cashing that in for the GPA.)

She’s brillant; I’m guessing she gets that from her mother.

@Angie, That hurts.
It’s true.
But it still hurts.

One of the greatest poems I’ve ever read. I think she has a future, and may even surpass her father.

@Tom, May????
I think you mean she already has.
I could only have dreamed of knowing what she knows in 3rd grade. At that age I was a clueless, slobbering, pathetic shell of a human being…
oh wait, that’s now.

Chocolate covered donuts aren’t a vegetable? Well…that explains some things. I loved this poem! She’s clearly talented.
