What an interesting graphic! Do you think that the Internet is the problem or is it the way people have used it to replace the “outernet”? Technology works well in all those areas listed above to accentuate and enhance the systems we’ve got in place. For example, the library uses computers to help classify information and make it easy to find. Old texts are preserved through the use of digital imaging.

The same could be said for the bookstore. How much more are children reading now that they can download books on their iPods and Kindles without needing a parent to take them to the bookstore?

I wonder what part of the “old world” is it that people miss so much and how is technology inhibiting that?

Thanks for the very thoughtful graphic. It got me thinking!

I love this graphic! It got me thinking about my early years teaching EFL (English as a Foreign Language) back home. I used to use a poster just like this to teach ‘The Community’ vocabulary. Upon reflection of those times, I realized it was as irrelevant then as it is now. Although our community “looks” like that, it no longer functions this way. So I wonder if this graphic should be the new ‘The Community’ poster for EFL classrooms around the world..? And if so, how does the teaching of new vocabulary change when most of these terms (Google, Twitter, Facebook) are known globally??

    Thanks for sharing!
